Netflix while charging

Post by akaazz » Wed Sep 30, 2020 11:57 pm

I’ve been watching Netflix whilst doing a 45m ‘rapid charge’ at service stations to make the time pass, and noticed this £1 raffle for a years access when looking to replace my expiring trial - https://raffall.com/129097/enter-raffle ... ted-by-aru
Thought to let you guys know in case anyone else was interested.
It would be great if you could get Netflix on the display whilst you’re waiting - I know Polestar are releasing that and surely Jag could with an OTA

But what does everyone else do whilst they trickle charge, going into Starbucks makes charging up on the road even more expensive :(

I have iPad for entertainment/work while charging. Much better to have iPad hanging on a steering wheel than looking sideways to a display in middle.

Ah, good point - that will do your neck in
I’m sure the future will be the front window is the screen and it shows when charging :p

I find the iPad a pain when there are two of you. Personally I’d like to be able to stream it either via CarPlay or the Jag OS. Unlikely to ever happen. At least we can still use the Meridian surround sound!

I’m a previous iPace owner, but due to different circumstances, I had to give the lease back and have a Tesla now. Netflix in the main display with the in car sound system is great. Even uses the Tesla data connection. It wasn’t always there but was delivered on OTA. I’m kinda surprised that Apple CarPlay or android auto can’t offer this, with the caveat that it needs to be aware the car isn’t moving. This would be a game changer for these platforms in all cars, not just EVs.

I think the problem is that they can’t tell if the car is stationary or moving and so can’t risk it at the moment.

It is a shame that they can’t, but I’m sure in future releases and with updated car software...

Both Android Auto and CarPlay can actually tell if the vehicle is moving or not. They have access to other data as well but in CarPlay case, the only thing it insists on from manufacturers is that it has access to that piece of data ( although most car companies provide more than this, such as SOC). Android Auto (unsurprisingly) insists on access to a lot more.

Can we watch Netflix while charging ?

Yes - we can

I was intrigued by the question and it is quite simple really. Take an Android device that can run Android Auto, I use an old Moto Z2 Play, root it and install AAMirror. Whatever is playing on the phone will be displayed on the car screen.
