Audi e-tron SB

Post by FENorway » Wed Nov 20, 2019 11:12 am

So Audi actually does what still is rumour for Jaguar-owner.
Unlocking 3% more battery(88->91% available) giving 10 kms more range and making the car RWD much of the time also giving 10 kms more.
Other range gain for the SB compared to normal e-tron is hardware. Lower drag, brake updates and more efficient pumps.
Hopefully Jaguar also soon confirms their upgrades and the new WLTP-range. Must have something soon or Audi takes my money. Think the SB looks stunning in S-line trim..

Did they do this on the existing e-tron 55, or just the new e-tron SB?

The e-tron 55 will have this changes in 2020. If something can be updated by a software-fix I dont know. The unlocking of the battery should at least be possible. Also the partial 2WD I believe is not a hardware issue.
It is likely that the e-tron 50(many of them already produced) will be technically similar and have the same software as the SB 50. Many customers in Norway are waiting for their e-tron 50, but Audi cant deliever them because they are waiting for final WLTP- and other approvals.

Not sure Jaguar will or should unlock anything in the 5+ kWh buffer they currently are using for I-Pace. I do think they will reduce the useful 'buffer' below the level where instruments show 0% remaining. Also I think I read something about improvement in balancing algorithm which might facilitate that the battery will more easily get close to it rated capacity when fully charged. Together these two improvement should make the car behave as having more capacity even though it really hasn't. Any real reduction of the 5+kWh buffer would make it more important not to let the car rest at 100% SOC. I would welcome such a reduction, but I'm very careful with my battery. Not everyone would be as careful I guess.

Slightly off topic, but as a US driver with an HSE (ordered prior to launch), I was disappointed that we didn't end up getting the Matrix headlights/animated turn signals over here due to regulation. The enabling of animated turn signals, for instance, would be a great example of a future SOTA update that Jaguar could offer that would be well received by existing owners.

I guess if the hardware is the same and the software has minions the feature, then perhaps software changes can change that behaviour.

However, if regulations are the limiting factor, perhaps those are unlikely change in the near future.
