Towbar

Post by norcis » Sat Jun 12, 2021 10:22 pm

Hi,

We had idea renting teardop camper and go on trip with I-Pace this summer, but when I asked my local dealer could they sell and install towbar for my MY2019 i-pace, they say it will take long time to get one and it will cost more than 4000€. Also said that with MY2021 it's not an option any more at all.
As alternative he suggested buying it some else and they could help installing.

How much you paid? Where could I buy one if not from local dealer for insane price. Maybe better to go with aftermarket one like https://www.pfjones.co.uk/jaguar-i-pace ... owbar.html

I have tried to get a towbar and they are not available, Brink originally did make one but cannot supply now, the weight limit was only 750 kg so only very limited use. If Jaguar have now deleted the towbar option, don’t fit one it will invalidate the warranty.
You can fit a bike carrier using the towbar eye positions and you can connect the extra rear light board needed for that.

Jaguar are being very conservative with the IPace, slower charging, limiting performance and top speed to ensure longevity, no doubt it could tow a trailer but towing a heavy trailer up a long hill it would get very hot quickly, the extra weight and drag would reduce range considerably. I do know a guy who uses a Tesla Model S LR to tow a long glider trailer weighing around 1 ton, it does the job but range is around 120 miles.

Still listed as factory fit, maybe factory fit only, there have been electronic coding problems with aftermarket tow bars on other models, Jaguar dealers won’t touch them.

Every tow bar will only be rated up to 750kg as that’s the maximum weight that Jag have rated the car to. So unless a third party was to go through the expensive process of paying for a regulatory re-rating, they will automatically have to advertise that figure, even though the car and towbar are almost certainly capable of doing more.

This is the original towbar, https://www.pfjones.co.uk/jaguar-i-pace ... owbar.html

Mine is "factory fitted" but was actually fitted at the dealer, £1800,- Jaguar lists it as a 2 hour job, but I know one owner used 7 hours to fit it himself.

I also have a factory fitted towbar, it is exactly the same as the Witter demountable towbar that I had on my Outlander.

Mine is "factory" option during initial spec, but along with a couple of other things it was actually done by the dealer before delivery and invoiced as such. The towing weight limit is on the drivers-side door plate and applies no matter what type of hitch or whether it was installed pre or post delivery.
My previous A3 etron was plated at "0" and although a tow hitch was available in other Euro markets it would have been illegal to have fitted and used it in the UK, much to my annoyance.
I've no doubt the i-pace could pull an awful lot more at the expense of range, there being no shortage of power or torque, but the restriction is possibly down to the lightweight bonded Aluminium structure rather than a traditional welded steel sub-frame to attach to.
It's the reason I'm driving a MY20 not 19. I had to wait almost a year before the option appeared in the configurator.

Looking forward to free motoring. (barring the cost of all the kit !)
