Discounted charging cards

Post by tutis » Tue Jun 08, 2021 10:06 pm

Has anyone tried charging an i-Pace at IONITY using charge cards from VW, Audi, Mercedes or Porsche (or any other service provider that offers discounted Ionity pricing)? Is it possible to sign up or even buy such a card or service?
I looked briefly at the Mercedes me Charge service which clearly states that you need a Mercedes vehicle to sign up. But what if I sign up with the VIN m a friend’s car? Or one from a car rental company? The ‘linked sale” is illegal under French law, so I’ll write to Mercedes and ask them if I can sign up for their service without buy a car… see what they say.

The VIN of the Mercedes car has to be linked to the Mercedes me account. This could only be done by a dealer. And the car has to qualified for the service (PHEV or BEV).
To use the discounted Ionity HPCs you will need a Mercedes me charge service (99€/year and not really cheap) and on top of this you will need the Ionity charging service (156€/year). Prices are from Germany.
You really have to travel a lot of long distance (more than 800kWh before it is cheaper than other charging services).

I have found this offer giving discounted Ionity rates for an annual subscription available for everyone.
https://evway.net/en/news/new-ionity-su ... evway-app/

Pay €69 for 12 months subscription (not auto renewed) to charge for €0.59 per kWh (or per minute in France) so save €0.20 per kWh (break even at 350kWh)
Pay €199 for 12 months subscription (not auto renewed) to charge for €0.39 per kWh (or per minute in France) so save €0.40 per kWh (break even at 500kWh)

I am thinking about using it but have not made the decision yet nor heard of anyone using it already.

Nice!

Just installed. When you first open the EVway app the tutorial telling you to register is in Italian, but the registration and app are all in English, and worked flawlessly. Ordered a keyfob as well, which with a 1500 'ladybug'-credit (=1500 cents 😅) is with a €5 discount. Will give the charging a try at a local station in the next few days. Planning a 6,000 km trip through Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Belgium and Netherlands so that could add up to € 600 saving when using the preferred Ionity chargers.

Thanks

Is the discounted rate not only for Ionity in France and FIinland? It does not mention other countries other then France and Finland on the website so what about Germany/Holland, etc...?

EVway is based in Milan and markets the Ionity deal specifically in relation to pan-European holiday travelling.

Double checked. France and Finland are mentioned as exception. There you are charged per min, while the rest of Europe is charged per kWh.

Tested today on Ionity. Tried 3 times on 2 units (mostly because the first unit continued to give an insufficient power error), but communications between app and units was quick and flawless.

Waiting for the keyfob now, as that is just that bit less of a hassle than with an app.

This is super useful info!

Thanks Jelle. What this Evway deal actually does is to cancel out our disadvantage of Jaguar not joining Ionity, for a cost of 70 euro per year. Fingers crossed that it will keep working!

The Enel X deal that Maxwell mentions is even cheaper if your need is less. Your first 70 or 145 kWh of the month at Ionity at €0 35 or even €0.31, can be switched back to pay per use each month... 👍

I think this may deserve a sticky note, to share other offers, experiences etc.
