Post by Lcc90 » Sat Jan 09, 2021 12:07 pm

Will I get faster charging if I pay the extra to get a 22KW charger at home?

Lcc - unless you have a MY21, you'll see no benefit at all. There's a marginal improvement with MY21s but I doubt you'd notice if you plug the car in overnight. You'll also need 3 phase electricity, which is uncommon in UK homes and very expensive. Overall, it's not worth it IMMHO.

Thanks. That was what I wanted to know as I couldn’t work it out from the Jaguar or charger companies websites. Just ordered my SE in silver so it will be MY21.

You need 3 phase to get a 22kw charger most common are 7kw or 11kw single phase if you go for a cheap tariff like Octopus Go (5p per kWh 00.30-04.30) use referral code and get £50 credit on your 1st bill

If your Electric infrastructure allows 22kw I would have gone for it.
The charger is normallly only 100-200£ more expensive and you are 100% future proof.

If you have a MY21 - No, MY21 charges at 11kW maximum
If you have an earlier model, yes, but it will only charge at 7.4kW, cheapest option is to get a one phase charger

Are you more future proof by getting a 22kW charger with load balancing ? Yes, definitely.

Don't you need 3 phase for 11kw too? That was my conclusion when researching charging options

You are correct - 3 phase 16A gives you 11kW.

You can't charge the I-pace 11kW from a single phase connection.
Yes in theory single phase 48A gives you 11kW however the I-pace and pretty much every other EV can max handle 32A so on a single phase 48A connection you will only be able to charge 32A = 7.4kW.

Most I-pace owners in Europe (prior to MY21) had the opposite problem - by far the most public chargers are 3 phase 16A = 11kW however because the MY19&MY20 I-pace can only handle single phase they can only charge 3.7kW on those 11kW chargers.

The MY21 I-pace can either handle 1 phase 32A = 7.4kW or 3 phase 16A = 11kW.
