Rapid misting up

Went out to get a takeaway tonight, temps around 1-2 C. Car demisted on drive before leaving, clear screens. 10 minute drive, pick up food, leave climate running while picking it up. Drive back, 2 mins from home sudden misting of front screen and side windows, in like 10 seconds, temp had just dropped to 1. Had to stop and turn on front screen to max etc and wind down side windows. Screens all been perfectly clear before this, no need for either heater to be on, aircon set to auto.

I don't think it was a car thing, but a freak atmospheric condition that lead to a change in dew point. Never seen anything like it in 35 years driving!! It was as if all the HVAC system had suddenly given up, ( it hadn't)

That happens when temperature is around freezing point and lot of moisture in the air. The air temperature drops below 0C even your display shows 1 on the road surface.

Doubt it, that was in the boot. Happened when I dropped down a hill so likely a temperature change outside. I'll probably never see it happen ever again!

Yep, and it's been tested many times, a little more drop would be perfect, but a bit of twisting of the bag and all is good.

No harm to check that your A/C is switched on.

Sudden changes of, or low, temperature causing misting suggests that it may not be.

Mine is reusable, put it into the micro every now and then to remove the water.

Aircon itself can cause the misting. I used to have real issues with this on my last car which was a Nissan GTR but not on either of the other 2 GTRs I owned.

Was never sure why it happened but it often seemed too, one thing which can cause it is the heating controls being set to recirculate rather than take in fresh air, moisture levels increase over time in recirculated air.

Won't the heated front screen clear it though?
