Active Sound Design

Post by fuseman » Thu Sep 10, 2020 5:57 pm

I know others have posted on this topic but as far as I can tell there is absolutely no difference between the 'calm' and 'dynamic' setting on the interior sound. On both settings (and the middle one in between) I can hear a fairly quiet whine on acceleration but that is it.

I'm not particularly bothered about this but I wonder if it's a fault on my vehicle or if this is the same for all cars (it was registered in July 2020 - built I think a few months earlier.

Mine is very quiet, after playing with it, I switched it off. The 'natural' star trek sound when accelerating is very pleasant.

I can't decide if the 'natural' Star Trek sound as you put it is always there or if this is actually an artificial sound which ought to alter when you change the active sound design to dynamic

Allegedly its the reduction gearboxes. seems to be common across EV's.

Same here, can't see the point of this feature, there's almost no difference...

It's much more noticeable in dynamic mode.

I must say, I don't understand why it can't be turned off completely. The other car is a RR P400e and in electric mode is completely silent, there is a huge difference, I wonder if the artificial sound in the Jaguar is meant to cover the electric motors's noise? Because the Range's electric motor is in the gearbox and therefore probably much quieter...

The RR P400e is a hybrid and a much smaller motor in the gearbox so is not likely to be intrusive, we have a Toyota Hybrid which is silent except for regen. High regen on my IPace does give some gear box whine, not especially intrusive but is there, otherwise road noise predominates, motor being almost silent.
IPace SE Caesium Blue, Ivory interior, Air suspension, 18in wheels, Drivers pack, 360. arrived 16th July, very nice.

ASD is very noticeable "space ship" type acceleration noise. The difference between the 3 modes is significant.
The car does make a fairly unobtrusive motor whine, but this is very different. I like it, wife hates it. If you can't hear it, then perhaps it's not working.
You can hear it on the internal shot here
