Pivi Pro - upgrade?

Post by RodLaird » Thu Jun 25, 2020 12:04 am

The current UI CPU is woefully underpowered as all know. Hints are that its replacement, "Pivi Pro" is better. Anybody have contacts that could determine whether Jaguar will offer an upgrade path? Sure just to be a hardware module. If the software UI is significantly different, I also wonder whether we all will get a software upgrade in any case as maintaining multiple versions would be costly for them...

It’s been confirmed by another forum member that there will not be an upgrade option.

Bum!
I know! I’d have done it almost (almost) irrespective of cost.

There is one upgrade available and that is to swap your current car with a new one. If you want it irrespective of cost then you have it right there.

It is inevitable that the cars, phones etc. will be refined and updated. However it does not make your car any worse than it was prior to the announcement. It is hard and stressful to always crave for latest and greatest. I see myself enjoy the car for at least 5 years until I decide to upgrade.

Well said! If you take the "must have the latest" to its logical conclusion you'd never buy anything, since there's almost always a newer verson in development. I bought my Nikon D800e 2 months before they announced the D850. :( But the D800e is still a fine camera and I have no regrets.

I guess if we didn't have another company "constantly" upgrading their infotainment system, even on cars that are 4-5 years old, we wouldn't have a benchmark to compare against. But we do and now there is no alternative but to compare.

For example, we (in the I-Pace community) are happy to "point" fingers to the lack of quality and luxury when it comes to Tesla cars because we feel (me anyway) that the I-Pace has a far better build quality and is a far more luxurious car. In the same light, we should be fair and "point" fingers back at ourselves when we see Jaguar doing something that "could be done differently" to benefit it's customer base.

I would call it honest reflection, if that is a viable term to use.

I do, however, appreciate that for a legacy car makers, this sort of mental shift in operations is difficult and will take time.

The difference with this is its not an upgraded system of infotainment, it is a new system from different manufacturer. Touch Pro Duo from Panasonic I think Pivi Pro from Sony
