Jaguar Announce the End of the I-Pace eTrophy Series

Post by Abu Dhabi Dude » Mon May 18, 2020 10:18 pm

Jaguar have announced that the I-Pace eTrophyvrace series will end at the end of this season. I have to say I’m very disappointed as I thought it was a great series and we as customers have already received one direct benefit from it. Real shame, as it really gave the car a global platform unlike anything their competitors had. And some of the racing was truly entertaining.

Unfortunately it is not a surprise, and likely to be the first of many.
I work in the industry, and we are expecting quite a lot of changes in the future, with the loss of teams and series, where only the strongest will survive. For sure, competition improves the breed, but the finances behind some of the (many) formulae can be very flaky.
In a couple of years the whole structure of world motorsport could look quite different.

I agree and the writing is on the wall, especially with the lower formulae motor sport.
I think COVID19 has exacerbated the issue and sometime that in it self is a bad thing because time does make a difference in some situations. It is unfortunate as that does mean less money to the likes of Jaguar in as far as exposure and marketing, which never helps a brand.

But that depends on how much Jaguar has to spend to avoid those losses - I bet running that series wasn't cheap.

What will happen to these eTrophy cars?

JLR recently recycled their early prototype and pre-production I-Paces.

I hope the eTrophy cars would be sold off to racers, collectors or museums, instead of feeding them into the crushers.

The body panel tooling and chassis enhancements should be used for an SVR version or kits & parts could be made available to owners similar to Mini Works Tuning accessories for fitment by dealers.

Any one knowing the future of these vehicles, please keep us informed.

Cheers, Steve

JLR had a lot of money spread about with 3rd parties working on various programmes (including a number of EV projects), but they have been withdrawing from them for a while, so this is just the latest in their trimming down.

The arrival of an eTrophy car on 05/15/2020 at StarCharge, a sponsor of the series and the official charging partner for I-Paces in the Chinese market. Still look very good don't they ;)
