Whilst there are some reasonable deals on new cars around bear in mind that the 'deal' price usually includes the OLEV grant of £3500, meaning an apparent £7k saving from list price is really a £3.5k discount by the dealer.

Also be aware that any pre registered cars (even with next to no mileage) will possibly be worth less at trade-in, having had 2 previous owners.

Lastly, whilst the residuals or guaranteed future values (GFVs) on PCPs are high, they look to be excessively so. This is good for monthly payments but does mean that there is little likelihood of any equity in the car at the end of the term.

Two recent examples (my own and another forum member's experiences);

S version with £4k worth of options:
List price £67,500, GFV on 36 month PCP £41,500, trade-in offer after 12 months & 10k miles £43,000 (non Jaguar dealer).

FE version:
List price £81,500, GFV on 15 month PCP £58,000, trade-in offer after 13 months and 'low' miles £48,000 (non Jaguar dealer), £53,000 (Jaguar dealer).

Our cars have lost 35 - 40% of their value in the first year with below average mileage.

In both cases it would have been several thousand pounds cheaper to lease the same spec. cars.

High PCP residuals are a double-edged sword. In retrospect I probably should have compared the total costs including deposits of PCP vs. leasing. I couldn't wait the 8 months delivery being quoted at the time (and the car was very shiny in the showroom) but there are cars available now from stock for both finance options.

I'm now annoyed I went for outright HPI without doing all of the calculations...
