Quick Survey

Post by I-Pace » Sat Nov 02, 2019 5:48 pm

Just came back from a road trip to Amsterdam and again achieved a 0% success rate on Ecotricity like chargers (tried 5 of them)...nearly missed a ferry over the summer because of them and today I nearly missed the Eurotunnel back to the U.K...

I really love my I-Pace but those chargers have such a negative impact on my journeys and overall EV experience! I spend a lot of time in France and most of those rapid chargers never work.

I don’t want to restart the debate on I-Pace owners being successful or not with Ecotricity but since we haven’t identified the reason why some cars work and others don’t I am wondering if it has something to do with when the car was build? I have read some Hyundai Kona owners have issues with such chargers based on when their cars were build.

So I am running a quick survey, please let us know when your I-Pace was build and if you are successful or not with Ecotricity like chargers (hopefully we will identify a trend)?

Any chargers using this screen:

if you’re going to do this, better to use the vehicle VIN

True but I guess it’s easier for people to remember when their car was build rather than their VIN number.

i would think many people will not know that, especially if they bought stock or dealer models, whereas the VIN is definitive

No idea when my car was built, 2019 but not much luck with those chargers.

I'd guess 15-20% success.

Built late 2018 (November I think). 100% success rate with ecotricity (around 10 charging sessions or so).

Mine was built early February 2019.

I've only had one complete failure with Ecotricity and that was at Scotch Corner but the whole charger was U/S

Some are very, very temperamental. At Fleet Services Northbound, unlocking the door using the button on the door can cause it to stop.
Others are far more forgiving.
Here are the ones that I've used successfully.
Fleet Services(M3 Southbound)
Fleet Services(M3 Northbound)
M4 Reading Eastbound
M4 Membury (Westbound)
M40 Warwick North
M40 Services at the A43 Junction
M25/A1 South Mimms
A1 Baldock
A1 Grantham
A1 Wetherby
M62 Hartshead Moor Westbound [1]
M6 Tebay Northbound
M25 Cobham

But as always, there was a Plan B

[1] I only went there because the Alfa-Power Charger site in Leeds didn't have a toilet.

These go back over the period I've had the car (since middle on March)
Driving "Hirundo Rustica" since 15th Mar 2019. Lovely Jubbly :D :D
S19B_* Maps : whatever is current.

Not much of a contribution I am afraid 99% charging at home. Occasional rapid charges. MY19, H228 only recently installed. most Ecotricity attempts fail. Latest at Chievely South success, and most welcome it was too.
