Go for less offset than the standard 22".
I have 8,5"x20 winter rims with ET45 and they alligns perfectly with the wheel arches.

Do you have the standard or air suspension Thincat?

I work from home so could arrange to meet most days except Mondays or Thursdays when the wife takes the car to work. P.M. me with your location if you would like to meet maybe at a half way point?

I do have air suspension but I don't think it makes that much difference to the ride. I have sent a private message with a suggestion for a meeting.

Aparrently the Tesla model 3 comes with removeable wheel trims which sit on top of the alloys. Taking these off can have a 10% negative impact on performance so perhaps aero is the biggest factor if you are regularly driving a motorway speeds given that the rolling radius of the 18 and 22 inch setups is similar?

There are posts alleging that a heavier wheel will take more energy to rotate it up to speed, it may well do that, on the other side it will store that energy so you can recover it as you decelerate. In practice the energy lost will be negligible.

The rolling resistance of a wider tyre will make a difference and also affect the grip level, if you want economy use the narrow tyre, for performance the wider tyre will give you more cornering grip.

The amount that can be obtained through regenerative breaking is hardly similar to the amount lost during motion due to the size of the wheel.

This article is based on a Tesla, but just look at the difference in efficiency from a 22” vs a 20” on a Model X which is the closest comparison to the I-Pace (SUV).

You are correct the amount that can be recovered through regenerative braking would be negligible, but a driver wishing to drive most economically would slow earlier to take account of the extra momentum - assuming the car software allows him to do that.

Wouldn’t that same person just avoid larger wheels becaus their driving efforts are dwarfed with the wheel choice they’ve made?
