Quick connect Type-C phone dock for Android Auto

Post by lairblock@gmail.com » Sun Oct 20, 2019 4:21 am

Just working on my mods, but one of the first was to create an auto-phone dock in the cupholder slot meant for phones. Using a type C cable (for my Samsung S9) and some bondo, I embedded the cable head at the right height and centered it so that when I slip my phone in the slot it auto connects via USB for my Android Auto and other features...and it keeps the phone charged. Then I drilled a hole in the bottom for the cord to pass through and just sanded the bondo shape to fit the little curved notch and added some matte black paint. It was a tiny bit off center so I sanded one side a bit more and filled the gap with a tiny piece of foam. On the bottom, I just taped the cord so removing the phone does not pull it up (but there are many other options for what to do on the bottom to keep it in place).

Works great and seems like an option that Jaguar could include for cheap.

Other mods include trash can spot with magnetized base and Escort radar detector install.

I wish I could un-tint the rear window, upgrade charging level to 9.6kv, have doors handles auto-retract (so when I don't lock the car it doesn't scream "hey, I'm unlocked", and change the following software items:
1. remember dynamic drive or last drive mode
2. show north up 2D on right side of single dial (only allows 3D vary mode)
3. remember that I want to shuffle my USB media files
4. navigation screen opens full screen mode without the battery info windows
5. direct button or home page widget to turn creep mode on/off (I only want this going in and out of my garage)
6. improve lane assist to Tesla levels
7. allow me to scroll through my media files and my contacts from the steering wheel (use this all the time on my BMW X3)
The left and right buttons could be the volume up/down and the wheel button could be select and scroll.

I most definitely have the 'Poor GPS signal on mobile phone' issue when I rest it in the console area. This must be down to the IR absorption properties of my panoramic roof. Easily solved with a window mount in the bottom-right (or bottom-left outside UK) corner of the windscreen.

I to have the same problem with poor GPS, but today i discovered that when the iphone is connected by the USB Cable, the GPS signal on the phone starts working. I have replicated this several times to day and it works

But only if the USB cable is connected to the usb plug in the center console, it doesnt work with the usb connectors that only charges

Can anybody verify this?

More information about how 'Juce Booster' works:
It’s a portable charging point that plugs into any power outlet including 3 phase or single phase 32A and 16A or 13A domestic. The I Pace charges using the onboard AC charger using whatever the power available. Obviously 32A supplies are preferable as they provide 7KWh charging. It does not make the I Pace 3 phase but it does allow 3 phase sockets to be used. Using a Juice Booster you can simply plug in to any domestic or industrial power outlet. I’m often at temporary sites in the course of my business where there are generators with 32A 3 phase outlets which means that I can plug in whilst I’m in a meeting and add 20 miles per hour to the car (for free). The unit is slim, so it fits in the tray under the boot floor, and it’s very robust.
The only minor concern is that it looks very cool, is outside the car whilst in use and standard power outlets are not locking, so it is potentially thieve-able. They do sell a security lock for that reason.

Add to. The fact that it’s very durable and got integrated residual current protection, its my opinion that this is the best portable charger you can get.

It is a great charging solution , I do agree . However it is quite sensitive to the quality of the earth connection and sometimes charging might not start
when connecting to standard 13Amp plug

This can be overcome by changing the setting to “earth off”

However this can be dangerous during a lightning storm, so be cautious.

Very informative although it would have been better if Steven could have at least confirmed some of the changes that people are asking for.
