I think this is an excellent point.symos wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 9:48 amSometimes it's not just about selling that many cars, it's about having a lower base price.
For example, the Mustang Mach E has an RWD version (which is obviously cheaper). If you look at stats, not many people have reserved it (myself included, before I canceled my reservation in favor of an i-Pace). However, it allows Ford to say that the Mach E "starts at XXXXX€", where XXXXX is a much more attractive price compared to the Jag. This creates a lot of media buzz and lures people in, who in the end, will probably opt for the more expensive, AWD version.
RWD I-Pace with better range?
Re: RWD I-Pace with better range?
MY20, Cesium Blue HSE, no sunroof, air suspension, HUD. Changed 20in wheels to 18in
.

Re: RWD I-Pace with better range?
If you have an AWD I-Pace and disabled the front motor (even if inductive not permanent magnet) you would still be hauling around a very heavy motor for little benefit, I can see the advantage of AWD and RWD but trying to mix the two might not achieve the objective.

From a driving perspective though RWD biased AWD gives the best overall feel regardless of the engineering difficulties it poses for an EV.elbocko wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 7:53 pmIf you have an AWD I-Pace and disabled the front motor (even if inductive not permanent magnet) you would still be hauling around a very heavy motor for little benefit, I can see the advantage of AWD and RWD but trying to mix the two might not achieve the objective.
That is why FWD biased AWD cars (e.g. most Audi's) have a poor driving feel.
