Software updates

Post by mslatte » Wed Sep 11, 2019 8:16 am

Hi,
just updated my software via SOTA and all went well but had to take car in to Dealer for the Telematics update. Before the update the screen showed I was on version 14.2 but after update the screen doesn't show a version anymore but I believe should say version 16.2, is this normal? Also after this update I have found that the mileage used on my daily commute which is 11.5 actual and normally uses around 11 to 14 electric miles has suddenly shot up to 20 electric miles and this at 0600hrs with very little traffic and delays. Any thoughts as to why this Telematics update has caused these happenings or does it suggest that the update in the Dealer was not done correctly .

The lack of a version number for the telematics does suggest you have the latest version.

Jaguar has decided that us mere mortals that own the car do not need to know the version number of the Telematics software, nor the BMS software.

I wouldn't worry too much about the indicated mileage consumption going up. The GOM is pretty useless until you have driven a few hundred miles. Even then it can scew results as it adjusts itself based on your last few hundred miles of driving.

I believe my car has the latest software version for everything and my driving style has not changed, I still get the same actual driven range from the car that I did before the update, despite anything the GOM says.

Its not updates, its downgrades.
Unfortunately nothing has improved over the 12 months I've driven the I-Pace. Really starting to get sick and tired of lags and hickups.

Smiles. I have a meeting tomorrow with my dealer to discuss returning the car. Apart from reasonable range, the car has not performed as sold :-(

I think that my post is more or less on topic; I share all the frustrations expressed above and another one - today I tried to check for SOTA updates re telematics again (not necessarily going to accept an available update anyway) but after the coloured squares rotated for about 5 minutes a message appeared on the screen: 'Content inhibited'. My car is fully unlocked for updates (according to the screen anyway), so does anyone know if this is a dealer-related inhibition or originating from the JLR mother ship?

That message normally comes up if you engage the car for drive, i.e. turn it on with foot pressed on the brake or actually start to drive. Did you start the update search and then start to drive by any chance? The content is inhibited so that you don't accidentally start the update while using it.

Also a number of things that you can read on the screen are inhibited whilst driving for safety reasons, eg text messages etc etc

Sadly, no, the car was only in accessory mode and my foot was under control elsewhere. But I appreciate your replies anyway!

Looks like I will replace the I-Pace with an XJ for now.

The full electric XJ is a while off yet, but that is my intended EV as the last car I will purchase - I am getting too old for this now :-)

Everything in the XJ just works. I know it’s not an EV, but it is a Jaguar. My wife will have the MG ZS EV, so I can placate my eco side with that.
