Range Reset Issue

Post by adamgipace » Wed Feb 06, 2019 12:04 pm

Hi all

180 miles in to owning an ipace...the problems started.

Thought I would share my experience and how it was fixed. On a full charge the car was only reading 216 range, way short of the quoted value.

Jaguar simply reset the system and within 15 mins I went from 197 miles to 254, way more like it.

Since then I have found a video online that shows this simple reset mode, worth keeping a note of, i'm sure it will happen again:

Issue 2, the delayed charging feature doesn't work at all, even after doing the work around it's rubbish, charges instantly every time. Fix: Stop using the system and walk out and plug in :)

There is a multipage thread on timed charging if you search the forum. TLDR version of it: doesn't work, needs SW update from JLR.

As for the reset; it doesn't really do anything other then fool the driver. It will adjust the range again based on your past driving. If you want more range, you can precondition the car, get smaller rims and adjust your driving style (and speed). Or get a Tesla, e-Niro or Kona.

Agree with the above comments. You are basically just fooling your self. I did this and my range jumped from 200 to 261 miles.
Now I find on short runs the range drop that was typically 50% over actual miles has increased to 100%.
In all my previous research and on every review no one pointed out how inefficient the car would be on short runs.
I love the car and charging is not an issue but this aspect has been a real disappointment.

That’s just an electric car issue to be honest. They all suffer with that. The same as petrol cars use more fuel when they’re cold. Just a fact of life so nobody talks about it. The good news is if you’re doing short journeys then range shouldn’t be an issue.

Some Teslas, e-Niro has about the same range and Kona has only about 10% more. Just sayin' :)

LPM mode or Preconditioning reduces the tumbling mileage, presumably avoids the need to pump so much energy into heating the battery early in the journey. It jumps out at me how aggressive the heating is, very loud compared to our i3 that only seems to be loud if we'd thrashed it.

Looks and drives great, but is really unreliable.

I find it depends on the setting you choose for the airflow strength in the climate settings. I have it on “powerful” but the lowest setting is noticeably more gentle and presumably uses less power. I’m not a high mileage driver so I’m getting very lazy as far as power saving goes. If I do a long journey I might tweak everything down again but for now on my commutes I’d rather be warm and comfortable!

Fan speed made a huge difference to my range prediction when I checked its effect.

With the climate temperature set at 21 degrees each fan speed level increase knocked about 20 miles off the range predicted in the eco menu - range impact. 60 miles difference (30%) between fan off and fan on speed 3!

I will check it again with different temperature settings to see if that makes any difference.

Just to be clear, in my post above I’m talking about changing the airflow in the climate control settings menu, NOT just by changing the fan speed manually.

Ah! Every day's a school day. I didn't even know that was an option. Something else to mess about with this weekend. Although I'm thinking it probably does something similar to manually changing the fan speed...
