I think it's becoming increasingly apparent that access to a network of high-speed chargers are needed for us to drive the I-Pace as god intended, however, if you look at the Ionity website there is one glaring omission on their map ……the UK.

According to the Ionity site no charger sites are being constructed (planned), let alone being put into service in the UK.

This after the announcement earlier in the year that 3 (I think) UK sites would be announced (and I had assumed opened) by the end of September (again, I assumed 2018).
Also a recent press release by Ionity also said that the price of using a Ionity charger is 8, 8 Euros, 8 pounds, 8 CHF - so again, one has to assume that at least one UK charger will be operational before the end of 2018.

Also emgf said that having spoken to ABB at the Paris Motorshow 300 of the 400 Ionity sites have already been acquired, so surely someone must know where these sites are going to be.

My understanding is that Ecotricity has a monopoly on non-Tesla charging at UK motorway service stations - is that correct?
If so, it does seem very short sighted of the British Government and a very bad deal for the UK driving public because where are the superfast IONITY chargers going to go if not on Motorways?

Has anyone bumped into any of these Ionity chargers in the UK?

Maybe they have had a soft launch - and they are already operational (the end of September was quite some time ago), It would be great to get a handle on where these chargers are going to be as it will be fundamental to the usefulness of the car.

Does anyone have any more info?

Well... an interesting trip today.

1) Ionity Cambridge
I rolled up and used the Jaguar Public Charging App and bingo, it started charging. 82kWh. Great so I went and bought a coffee.
My joy was shortlived. Just over 10kWh was delivered and the charger shut down. It said 'Charging Complete'.
I did the sums and... behold. It delivered £8.80 worth of Electricity if you use the normal £0.79p per kWh charge.

2) Ionity Baldock.
The site there isn't in the Jaguar Charging app but it didn't matter. I smiled when I found the 4 chargers are currently on free vend. Bingo.

I briefly got 100kWh but it settled down to 83/84 kWh.
But the joy didn't last. The charger shut off after 30 mins and 40kWh delivered. I briefly debated moving to another charger and trying again but I have more than enough in the battery to get home.

It would be nice if someone else could verify that using the Jaguar App does what I saw earlier but the free vend at Baldock might be useful for others.
Hmm, interested to hear this experience as we have a trip planned in two weeks from Leeds to West Sussex and Baldock is likely stop on the way down...... was there an error message when the charger shut off both times?

I charged in Norway with Jaguar Public Charging for about two weeks ago. I have yet not been charged any amount for the session. It went uninterrupted.

No error message. The charger said 'Charging Complete' both times.
The Ionity app told me that Baldock was on free vend so I cleared the display (press Ok a few times) from the previous user and connected. I pressed start and away it went.
You can check that way about the charge state for Baldock. The site has capability for 6 chargers but only 4 are currently installed.

As an aside, the latest "Fully Charged" episode where Robert is driving the Polestar 2 is interesting. He goes to Milton Keynes and gives Ionity a bit of a kicking for having 3 out of the 4 chargers broken while all the Polar ones were working fine.

I used the Jaguar RFID card last week with the new Ionity at Perth. It charged up without stopping at any point. I took over the amount for an £8.80 charge. Would have been around £20 at Ionity prices.

When he is exiting the car you can see an I-Pace charging on Polar in the background.

He does a bit of a hack job trying to get the gestures rail gate to open. I bet Polstar we're fuming when they say him do that...

Where did you obtain your RFID card? I successfully obtained a Jaguar public charging account some time back, but my dealer has no idea how to supply a physical RFID card for the account, i.e. what the app describes as a 'charging key'

You can order 1 through the App - I had to pay €10 to get the RFID card delivered.

There is a choice between a card (credit card format) or something you can hang on your keychain.

Hi Jelle

I cannot find how to order via the App. Could you please walk us through it?

Thanks in advance,

Joe

You need to have the Jaguar Plugsurfing app, go to "account", go to "charging key/card" and click on "order charging key/card".

I have an Iphone so App might be different for Android, else just google Plugsurfing customer service and give them a call.

While I thank Jelle for his advice, in fact there is nothing in the android app or indeed on the Jaguar plugsurfing website to enable key ordering. So I have just phoned the Jaguar Plugsurfing helpdesk: Their response: 'you can only obtain a charging key from your Jaguar dealer, who should have provided it when you bought the car'. I have set up an enquiry 'ticket' as the helpdesk advised to try and make some progress...

There was a thread about this on the UK Facebook group - I think it was concluded that you can just order the normal plugsurfing RFID card but you then need to register it within the jaguar public charging app not the plugsurfing one....... for whatever reason the option to order RFID is only in the iOS jaguar app and not android

In the Jaguar charging app, click on "Account", then "charging key/card", then "order charging key/card".
This is only available in the iOS app I think....

I've just got back from a trip to Czech and back - probably 3,000km in total.

Ionity is great when it works - when you get to a charging point and they are doing maintenance, won't be finished for at least two hours and you've got about 10% left it's not so much fun being in an EV...

I found that the JuicePass July offer worked most of the time and when it didn't the Jaguar Plugsurfing app worked. A total of about 60 Euros for the entire trip, so I probably saved at least £300 compared to using my petrol car. The downside is that the return journey totalled around 22 hours and because I was late to the Eurotunnel I had to pay another £85 for a 3:20am crossing...

If these sort of offers cannot be obtained next time I drive to Czech then I'll not be taking the Jaguar.

Yes, there was a similar thread on uk FB group where I shared same annotated screenshot you have; the OP said it wasn't present in their android app. Agree, pretty strange that's the case

Well, at least my case is now resolved. The helpdesk decided to send me the key without charge given that they agree that the android app lacks an order button. However their default position regarding UK based Jaguar I-Pace customers was that the Jaguar dealer was supposed to have provided a key at the time of car purchase

BTW: Here is a screenshot of the android equivalent of the screen that ADD showed - no order button...

Ionity for sure will not have 400 stations live by end of 2020 - I am sure they will blame Corona but their roll out already slowed down significantly prior to Corona hitting Europe. So far only 259 live with a further 45 under construction - average construction time has risen to nearly 4 months.

Happy to see that ionity is building a charging station near Metz. It's in the middle of what has been a very large 'blind spot's for quite some time.
Indeed very good news - hopefully it will be 6-8 chargers rather than only 4. The station is for both direction.

Thanks,

I spoke to the team @plugshare yesterday and think I've ended up in the same position - they capitalised my comment on the resulting ticket that the dealer was not aware of their responsibility to issue a RFID card, my local dealer has no clue....
